John Perry, MA, NCC

John is a Resident in Counseling in the state of Virginia. They have a special interest in working with LGBTQIA+ issues, relational conflict, life transitions, depression, anxiety, multicultural issues, identity exploration, suicidal ideation, trauma, issues with the legal system, and personality disorders.

He believes that creating a safe environment for the client to explore current concerns, challenges, and various avenues for healthy connection with community are essential to healing and growth. John weaves multiple modalities into treatment with clients, including trauma-informed, client-centered, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), existentialism, solution-focused therapy, and relational-cultural therapy (RCT).

John earned his Master’s degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Forensic and Legal Psychology from Marymount University. They are a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and a member of Chi Sigma Iota, an international counseling academic honor society.

Prior to working with CCG, John worked at a community health center in DC that primarily served the LGBTQIA+ community and individuals living with HIV or other chronic conditions. They gained experience working with individuals coping with complex trauma experiences, discrimination, chronic illness, and the coming out process and social changes that come with it.

Outside of work, John enjoys cooking, traveling, reading a good book, and spending time with friends and family.
