Shara Concepcion, LMSW

Shara is passionate about helping clients cultivate self-compassion, effective coping strategies, and sustainable peace in their daily lives. She works with adults, adolescents, children, and parents who are overwhelmed by maladaptive patterns, searching for healthy relationships, and seeking to effect change in their lives.

Shara brings to her therapeutic container training and life experience in complex trauma, multiculturalism and sociocultural dislocation, relationship issues, career and education shifts, grief and loss, emotional dysregulation, and anxiety and depression. She is attentive to client values and backgrounds, and strives to provide culturally responsive and LGBTQIA-affirming care to her clients.

Shara’s approach is collaborative and client-based. She utilizes a variety of evidence-based psychotherapeutic approaches including CBT, DBT, and mindfulness. She draws from over fourteen years of professional experience in various clinical and nonprofit settings, including outpatient clinics, elementary school-based mental health programs, college counseling centers, disaster response and recovery field-based settings, and more.

Shara obtained her Masters of Clinical Social Work from Columbia University. A former college lecturer, Shara completed five years of PhD study at the City University of New York’s Graduate Center with a focus on post-colonial and Latinx literature. In addition to her clinical training, she obtained a Masters of Arts in Gender and Cultural Studies from Simmons University and a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from Smith College.
