Summer Drum, RC

Summer Drum is a Resident in Counseling in Virginia. Summer works with clients experiencing a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, identity struggles, sexuality concerns, difficult life transitions, relationship problems, trauma, and shame. With a deep commitment to fostering a safe and supportive environment, Summer helps clients explore and process their emotions with authenticity, compassion, and care.
Summer utilizes an integrative approach to therapy, tailoring techniques to meet the specific needs of each unique client. Summer practices from a client-centered lens that incorporates psychodynamic principles, mindfulness practices, and valuable skills from evidence-based approaches, including DBT and CBT. Summer empowers clients and builds on their inherent strengths to promote growth and healing. Summer utilizes the Gottman Method in her work with couples.
Summer holds Master of Education and Master of Arts degrees in Mental Health Counseling from Columbia University. Prior to working at CCG, Summer was a therapist at a group practice in New York City, where she gained experience working with individuals, couples, and groups. Summer also has a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from UNC Greensboro; before attending graduate school, she was an elementary school and early childhood teacher in North Carolina and Texas.
Outside of work, Summer enjoys yoga, cooking, singing, time in nature, and the silly antics of her two cats. She cherishes quality time with her husband, family, and friends.
